The trip

Six days across Kashmir's four best-known valleys: Srinagar's gardens and Dal Lake, the ABC circuit above Pahalgam, Sonmarg and the Sindh valley, and a full day in Gulmarg. This is a starting plan. We shape it around you, adjusting the pace and order of days to suit your dates, your group and the conditions at the time, and recommend the best option before you confirm.

Trip highlights

  • Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh and Chashme Shahi
  • One-hour Shikara ride on Dal Lake
  • A night on a traditional Dal Lake houseboat
  • Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari
  • Sonmarg and the Sindh valley
  • Thajiwas Glacier
  • Zero Point, subject to conditions
  • Gulmarg Gondola Phase 1, included

Day by day

Timings shift with flights, weather and road conditions. We plan around that rather than promising a fixed clock.

Day 1

Arrival in Srinagar — gardens and the lake

Met at the airport and straight into the best of Srinagar: the Mughal gardens terraced against the hills, with fountains, old chinars and the lake below. Later, an hour on the water by Shikara, surrounded by the Zabarwan range and the floating gardens that make Dal Lake unlike any other. You check in to your hotel in the evening.

  • Nishat Bagh
  • Shalimar Bagh
  • Chashme Shahi
  • Shikara ride on Dal Lake

Day 2

Srinagar to Pahalgam

After breakfast we check out and drive to Pahalgam through orchards, villages and open country. On arrival, check in and take the afternoon slowly — the market, the Lidder river, or the valley from wherever you can sit and look at it. This is the quietest night of the trip.

Overnight — Hotel, Pahalgam

Meals — Breakfast and dinner

Day 3

Pahalgam's ABC circuit, then back to Srinagar

The Aru–Betaab–Chandanwari circuit, which is the reason to give Pahalgam a night rather than a stop. Aru is an alpine valley ringed by pine and meadow, Betaab is the lusher one with streams running through it, and Chandanwari sits higher, on the traditional Amarnath Yatra route. Internal sightseeing on this circuit runs on local union vehicles, which are charged separately. Back to Srinagar in the evening.

  • Aru Valley
  • Betaab Valley
  • Chandanwari

Day 4

Sonmarg and the Sindh valley

A full day out to Sonmarg, the Meadow of Gold, driving up alongside the Sindh river through some of the most dramatic country on the itinerary. Thajiwas Glacier is the focus; pony rides towards it are available locally at additional cost. Zero Point, further up towards the Zojila pass, is subject to conditions and is not always open. Back to Srinagar in the evening.

Day 5

Gulmarg and the Gondola

Out to Gulmarg for the day, at around 8,700 feet in the Pir Panjal. Gondola Phase 1 is included, subject to availability, and gives you the meadows, the pine and the Himalayan skyline from above. Phase 2 up to Apharwat is available at additional cost when weather and operations allow. The rest of the day is the meadows themselves. Down to Srinagar in the evening and on to the houseboat for the last night.

  • Gulmarg meadows
  • Gondola Phase 1, included
  • Apharwat Peak via Phase 2, at additional cost

Overnight — Houseboat, Srinagar

Meals — Breakfast and dinner

Day 6

Departure

Breakfast on the houseboat and check out. Depending on your flight there is usually time for shopping — handicrafts, saffron, dry fruit, pashmina — before the transfer to Srinagar airport.

Accommodation

Handpicked hotels, confirmed at quote. Where a houseboat night is part of the route, it is a deluxe category houseboat on Dal Lake. If availability changes, a property of similar category is provided and you are told before arrival.

Meals

Breakfast is included from Day 2 to Day 6 and dinner from Day 1 to Day 5 — so dinner on your arrival night and breakfast on your departure morning are both covered.

Lunches are not included, which keeps you free to stop where the day takes you. Tell us about dietary needs at enquiry and we pass them to every property.

What to expect, what to pack

Kashmir runs colder and later in the day than most visitors expect.

Layers, not one heavy coat

Mornings and evenings are cold well into spring. Layers handle a valley floor at 20°C and Gulmarg at 4°C on the same day.

Proper shoes

Grip matters more than warmth on wet meadow and loose ground, particularly on the Sonmarg day. Trainers are fine in summer, waterproof boots from November.

Winter, November to March

Thermals, a windproof outer layer, gloves, a warm hat and waterproof footwear. Gulmarg and Sonmarg are materially colder than Srinagar.

Houseboat night

Heating on houseboats is modest compared with a hotel. An extra warm layer for that night is worth carrying.

Sun protection

High-altitude sun is stronger than it feels, and snow doubles it. Sunscreen and sunglasses year round.

Cash

Card acceptance is patchy outside Srinagar. Carry cash for union vehicles, pony rides, markets and tips.

Cancellation, in short

  • 15 days or more before departure — the ₹5,000 per person booking amount is non-refundable; anything paid beyond it is refunded
  • 7 to 14 days before departure — 50% of the total trip cost is charged
  • Less than 7 days before departure — 100% of the total trip cost is charged
  • No-show, or cancellation after the trip has started — no refund
  • Cancellation requests must be in writing, by email or WhatsApp. The date of the written request decides which band applies.

This is a summary. The full terms and cancellation policy govern your booking.
