Timings shift with flights, weather and road conditions. We plan around that rather than promising a fixed clock.
Day 1
Arrival in Srinagar, gardens in the afternoon
Met at the airport and taken to your hotel to drop bags and freshen up. The afternoon is a half-day of Srinagar itself — the Mughal gardens, terraced up against the hills with the lake below, and the temple hill if the light is still good. An easy first day by design, because most flights land tired.
- Nishat Bagh
- Shalimar Bagh
- Chashme Shahi
- Shankaracharya Temple
Overnight — Hotel, Srinagar
Meals — Dinner
Day 2
Srinagar to Pahalgam
After breakfast we check out and drive to Pahalgam — about 90 km, two and a half to three hours, through saffron fields, pine and open country. There are proper stops on this road rather than photo pauses. Check in at Pahalgam and the rest of the day is unstructured: the market, a walk along the Lidder, or the valley from a chair. Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari are available as optional additions.
- Pampore saffron fields
- Avantipura Ruins
- Cricket bat workshops
- Lidder river
Overnight — Hotel, Pahalgam
Meals — Breakfast and dinner
Day 3
Pahalgam to Gulmarg, then Srinagar
Check out after breakfast and cross to Gulmarg for the day. It sits in the Pir Panjal at around 8,700 feet, which you feel — it is noticeably colder than the valley floor, and in winter it is a different world. Gondola Phase 1 is included, subject to availability; Phase 2 towards Apharwat is at additional cost. Down to Srinagar in the evening.
- Gulmarg meadows
- Golf course
- Maharani Temple
- Maharaja Palace
- Gondola Phase 1, included
Overnight — Hotel, Srinagar
Meals — Breakfast and dinner
Day 4
Old Srinagar, a Shikara ride, and the houseboat
A slower day in the city — the shrines, the old quarter, the markets, which is the part of Srinagar most itineraries skip. Late afternoon, an hour on the water by Shikara past the floating gardens and moored houseboats. Then you check in to the houseboat itself for the night, which is worth doing once and is the thing people remember.
- Hazratbal Shrine
- Jamia Masjid
- Hariparbat Fort
- Local markets
- Shikara ride on Dal Lake
Overnight — Houseboat, Dal Lake
Meals — Breakfast and dinner
Day 5
Departure
Breakfast on the houseboat and check out. Depending on your flight there is usually time for shopping — handicrafts, saffron, dry fruit, pashmina — before the transfer to the airport or railway station.
Overnight — Departure
Meals — Breakfast
