Winter · no training required
Winter Kashmir Sightseeing
Not everyone who wants to see Kashmir in snow wants to spend the week learning to ski. This trip is built for the valley in winter at a walking pace: Srinagar, Gulmarg and whichever routes are open in your dates, with warm rooms and short driving days.
If you want one or two snow-activity days without committing to a full ski course, we can add them.
Who this trip suits
The route and pace change depending on who is travelling. Tell us which of these you are and the itinerary is built accordingly.
Couples
Fewer stops, longer at each one, and a houseboat or lake-facing night where that is what you want from the trip.
Families
Shorter drives, warm rooms, and snow time built into the middle of the day rather than early starts.
Small groups
One vehicle, one plan, and enough flexibility that people can opt out of a day without derailing everyone.
Solo travellers
A private vehicle and driver, with the option to join a snow session rather than spend every day alone.
Senior travellers
Planned around walking distance, altitude and cold exposure. We will tell you honestly which points are hard going in snow, and this is subject to individual suitability.
Sightseeing plus snow
A mostly sightseeing trip with one or two instructor-led snow days in Gulmarg added to it.
Where a winter trip usually goes
These are the areas we build winter itineraries from. What is reachable in your specific week depends on snowfall and road conditions, so your quote will state which of them we can commit to.
Srinagar
Accessible in most conditionsDal Lake, the old city, the Mughal gardens under snow, and the craft workshops. The base for arrival and departure, and the most weather-resilient part of any winter itinerary.
Gulmarg
Snow-dependent accessThe main snow destination and the reason most people come in winter. The road from Srinagar can be slow or restricted after heavy snowfall, and gondola operation is decided locally on the day.
Pahalgam
Usually accessibleA quieter valley with pine forest and the Lidder river, generally reachable through winter. A calmer alternative or addition to Gulmarg.
Sonmarg
Often closed in deep winterBeautiful but frequently unreachable between roughly January and March because of snow on the approach. We include it only when conditions in your dates allow.
Doodhpathri and nearby meadows
Conditions permittingDay trips from Srinagar that work well in early and late winter. Heavy snow can close the approach roads without warning.
Adding a snow day without a full course
A single introductory session on a gentle slope, with an instructor and rented equipment, is a reasonable way to try skiing or snowboarding without reshaping the whole trip. One day will not make you a skier, and we will not pretend otherwise.
If you decide you want more, the full ski and snowboard trips are planned separately.

Read the full travel disclaimerFrequently asked questions
Will we definitely see snow?
No one can promise that. Between roughly December and March snow is likely in Gulmarg and possible in Srinagar, but we will not guarantee a snowfall in your specific week, and you should not book a winter trip on the assumption that we have.
Is this trip suitable for older travellers?
Often yes, with planning. We can keep walking distances short, avoid the steepest viewpoints and build in rest. It depends on the individual, so tell us about mobility or health considerations and we will be straightforward about which parts are hard going.
Can children come?
Yes. Tell us the ages on the enquiry form, because it changes the room configuration, the pace and which snow activities make sense.
What if the Gulmarg road is closed?
We reshape the day around what is open, usually with Srinagar or Pahalgam alternatives. We cannot create access that does not exist, and the refund position in that situation follows the written force majeure terms.
Do we need special clothing?
Warm layers, a waterproof outer, gloves and shoes with grip make a large difference. Snow boot and clothing rental is sometimes available locally and can be requested as an add-on.
